I loved astrology long before I ever heard of Shamanic Astrology. I’d read the books, follow the astrologers, and pull up my chart (and my husband’s… and my kids’) just for fun. But the more I learned, the more something inside me tightened.
In so much of the traditional astrology I came across, there was this unspoken undercurrent of good and bad.
There were “good houses” and “bad houses.” Moons that were “void of course” and therefore a “problem.” Certain planetary aspects that meant something… well, not great.
I remember staring at my own chart, fixating on my Sun in the 12th House, which I had just heard on a podcast was the worst placement for the Sun, and wondering what kind of cosmic sentence I’d been given.
Was I destined for something terrible?
Had I been born with some sort of built-in flaw?
Astrology, which I’d turned to for magic and meaning, was starting to feel heavy and fear-based.
The Day I Could Finally Exhale
Then I found Shamanic Astrology. And my whole body relaxed. It felt like taking a deep breath after holding it for years.
This lineage doesn’t label placements as “good” or “bad.” It doesn’t set you up to fear certain aspects of your chart. Instead, it sees all archetypes and all planetary energies as neutral — simply part of the natural cycles we all live within.
Core to its teachings is this: nothing is inherently “positive” or “negative.” Everything is potential. It’s not about fate. It’s about co-creation. That shift in perspective was exactly what I didn’t know I’d been craving.
A System Rooted in Nature and Choice
Shamanic Astrology, developed by Daniel Giamario, invites you to approach your chart with curiosity, not fear. It’s a nature-based system, honoring the seasons, the cycles, and the wisdom of the archetypes without judgment but with deep reverence instead.
And unlike some traditional interpretations, Shamanic Astrology isn’t prescriptive. It won’t tell you exactly what a placement must mean or dictate your destiny. Instead, it reveals the energy available for you to work with, energy you can choose to express in your own way.
That means you’re in the driver’s seat.
It’s not “What do the stars say is going to happen to me?” but “How can I work with these archetypes to create the life I want?”

How It Changed My Relationship with My Chart
One of the first things I learned through this lens was about the Moon sign.
In traditional astrology, the Moon is often seen purely as your emotional self, and while that’s not wrong, in Shamanic Astrology, the Moon is the archetype you’ve already mastered in past lifetimes. It’s the role you ruled before, which is why it feels so familiar and easy to express now.
Understanding that shifted everything. Instead of using my chart as a self-critique, I started to see it as a map, of strengths, challenges, and invitations.
It gave me permission to honor the parts of myself that felt natural and also explore the growth edge of my Venus, the archetype I’m here to embody in this lifetime.
Shamanic Astrology set me free from the fear-based version of astrology I’d unknowingly absorbed. It reminded me that nothing in my chart is a punishment, it’s all raw material for growth.
It helped me see my “challenges” as choices.
My “weaknesses” as invitations for deeper embodiment.
My “destiny” as something I co-create every single day.
Most importantly, it reconnected me to the joy of working with the stars, not as an outside authority, but as allies on my own path of healing, growth, and self-discovery.
If you’re curious about exploring Shamanic Astrology for yourself, I always recommend starting with The Shamanic Astrology Handbook by Daniel Giamario and Cayelin K Castell.
And if you want to see how this approach can support your relationships, your healing, and your connection to your authentic self, well… that’s exactly the work I love to do.
